How common is glaucoma?

The older you are, the more likely you are to have glaucoma. Including everyone over the age of 40 years old, about one person in every 50 has glaucoma. If careful testing is carried out on white Europeans over 75 years old, about one in ten will have glaucoma. Glaucoma is more common in people of black African or black Caribbean descent.
