Laser Treatment of Glaucoma

YAG Laser Peripheral Iridotomy

A device called a YAG Laser is in treating a number of eye conditions. One use is to create a very small opening in the edge of the iris to bypass a potential blockage of fluid. This blockage, should it occur, can cause closed angle glaucoma. This treatment is called a YAG Laser Peripheral Iridotomy, or YAG PI.

Argon Laser Trabeculoplasty

For some patients with open angle glucoma, I may suggest using a different type of laser. This treatment can be used to change the amount of fluid draining through the eye's normal drain (the trabecular meshwork) this treaments is known as Argon Laser Trabeculoplasty or ALT. This is  fairly painless procedure and is carried out as an outpatient procedure.
